What's the 'story of you'?

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago with my four brothers. In my early twenties, I moved to Chicago and lived in the city for about three years. I recently moved to Texas with my partner.

When I am not working I love reading, cooking, exploring my new hometown, and watching sports (I will always be a Chicago sports fan 😉).

What excited you most about joining Buildout?

I was most excited to join because of the culture. The culture at Buildout is unlike any other I have experienced in the workplace. Here at Buildout, we have a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment. I feel like I can 100% be myself and everyone is so kind and welcoming. As a new employee joining the People Team, I was beyond excited to bring my ideas, skills, and enthusiasm to the team, and continue to contribute to the positive culture and success of our employees.

What does your job as People Operations Specialist entail? What does your typical day look like?

Every day looks different for me. Some of the recurring responsibilities that I handle are the monthly Company Meetings, onboarding/offboarding employees, payroll, managing our tech equipment, helping with mail/checks, and office upkeep. All of those tasks trickle into my day-to-day activities, but I would say a typical day always entails helping employees with any requests they may have. That could be IT issues, specific apps/tool requests, office-related stuff, and miscellaneous questions. I always tell employees, if you don’t know who to ask, come to me!

What changes have you made to the onboarding process to set up new hires for success?

I take my role in onboarding very seriously. I am the first person that all new hires talk to on their first day. I focus on two things for onboarding that I think are the most important. The first is to communicate with the employee before their first day. There is nothing worse than coming into your first day and not knowing what to expect. This is where our culture comes into play as well. Right after the employee gets hired and signs their offer, we send them a welcome video, from our CEOs, Jason Tillery and Kris Krisco! We hope that little experiences like this make new hires feel comfortable with leadership and know that they will be valued in our company. The second is to create a fun and informative welcome meeting. This is a person’s first-ever meeting at Buildout, so it has to be interesting. I want to make sure all new hires have the tools they need to succeed. I am continually working on improving our welcome meeting and onboarding so employees come out of it feeling welcome, energized, set up for success, and overall, having a sense of peace knowing they made the right decision to join our team.

How does Buildout help you reach your goals?

The supportive people at Buildout are what help me reach my goals. Especially my teammates on the People Operations team, affectionately nicknamed the Popsicles.. I lucked out on the team department. These ladies are so supportive, and encouraging, and truly want to see me succeed. Being part of a dynamic work environment where creativity and teamwork are valued is exactly where I thrive, and this team embodies all of that. Knowing that I have their support pushes me daily to do better and reach my goals.

How would you describe our culture?

Buildout’s culture is unlike any other I have worked in. Our culture is fun, welcoming, collaborative, supportive, transparent, flexible and the list goes on. Our culture here is overall very inspiring and I am grateful every day that I get to be part of it.

What's something unique about Buildout?

The most unique thing about Buildout (and my favorite thing) is that we are weird and we embrace it! Whether it be our Slack question of the day topics, meeting themes, or office decor, *cough*, taxidermy, *cough*, we are quirky and fun I love being a part of it. We call each other otters, salami means a lot to us, and I once sent an employee a bunch of expensive bananas because they were recognized for being a great teammate! I guess you can say this all makes Buildout pretty unique.

What is your go-to TV show or movie?

I love all true crime documentaries! I have no idea why but I am so fascinated by true crime and am almost always in the mood to relax and watch a documentary/docuseries. I can’t answer this question without mentioning I love any Adam Sandler movie.

What’s on your travel bucket list?

Bora Bora! This has been my dream vacation for as long as I can remember. I am perfectly content with just sitting in a bungalow all day, over the water, and reading my book. That sounds like absolute heaven on earth!
