Get to know Andrew Jaramillo

What's the 'story of you'?

I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Besides my family and friends, I miss the food most of all. I moved to Denver, Colorado about 12 years ago and have fallen in love with the city.

Most of my time outside of work is spent with my two beautiful daughters and partner. We enjoy hiking, camping, libraries, and our local museums. Some of my personal interests and hobbies include board/card games, video games, craft coffee, podcasts, reading, and listening to music -- I am a pretty big hip-hop head but I listen to lots of different genres.

Tell us about your experience joining Buildout (from Apto)?

Joining Buildout, after my previous company was acquired, was quite a change. I went from a small, scrappy team with a single product to a much larger, well-organized team managing multiple products and projects. The transition was challenging but very rewarding. The people at Buildout made that transition much easier on me than I expected it to be. Buildout has some of the smartest, kindest, and most talented people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with.

What does your job as Product Manager entail? What does your typical day look like?

As Product Manager, it’s my job to be the “Voice of the Customer.” I spend much of my time conducting research and interviews with people in the industry trying to understand the problems they face in their roles. I take those conversations and research and identify meaningful solutions to make our customers' lives and jobs simpler and more efficient. Once we have identified a solution, I work with a team of incredibly talented Designers and Developers to actually build, test, and implement these solutions. After we release these solutions, I spend time monitoring trends and usage to determine how well they are impacting our customers. Part of measuring the success of these solutions is conducting even more interviews with our customers to get their honest feedback. I take this feedback and use it to refine and iterate our solutions. This is an ongoing and cyclical process of product development that involves research, ideation/iteration, building, testing, and launching new products and solutions. The cycle never stops. We start it over and over again to ensure we’re producing the best products for our customers.

What project are you most proud of?

I am most proud of our Research and CRM tool, Buildout Connect. Our team worked tirelessly to create one of the most unique and effective tools in the industry for Prospecting and Databasing. I believe this tool is a game-changer for the industry and will continue to improve and increase in value for our customers.

What’s it been like to work on a fast-growing team?

It’s been an absolute rollercoaster. Our team is so talented and hard-working and it inspires me to grow and give my all every day. Many days can be high-stress but it’s been rewarding to see how quickly we move and to look at all the progress our team has made on our goals.

What advice would you give to a candidate interested in joining your team?

Be flexible and dynamic because Buildout moves quickly. One day may look nothing like the following day and, though that can be challenging, just remember that you’re never on your own. You are surrounded by incredibly talented and helpful people who all support each other in reaching our goals.

How would you describe our culture?

Buildout’s culture is diverse and open-minded. They’ve attracted some of the best and most unique talent out there. Everyone is approachable and wants to help out in any way they can. I’ve never worked at a company where literally every person is working towards the same goals like Buildout does. From senior executives to entry-level employees, everyone works through challenges together.

What is your go-to TV show or movie?

It’s cliche, but Breaking Bad is the best TV show ever. I am biased, having grown up in Albuquerque, but that show is the peak of entertainment and storytelling.

What’s on your travel bucket list?

I desperately want to visit Japan. I’m very interested in Japanese culture, food, and entertainment. Visiting Japan would be a dream come true.

What is your favorite video game of all time?

My favorite video game is definitely Red Dead Redemption 2. Not only is the game set in the wild west (one of my favorite settings) but the game is downright beautiful. I could spend hours just wandering around and enjoying the scenic world and riding my horse. Lastly, it has to be one of the best storylines ever. It’s not often that a video game can get you to relate to a story or its characters so deeply. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried while playing this game. 10/10, would definitely recommend.
